On Friday, the U.S. Army declared new restrictions on transgender individuals in its ranks. The Army stated that it will no longer permit transgender individuals to enlist and will halt medical procedures related to gender transition for current service members.
"Effective immediately, the U.S. Army is prohibiting new enlistments for those with a history of gender dysphoria and is suspending all medical treatments associated with gender affirmation for those currently serving," the Army announced.
The statement further emphasized that service members with gender dysphoria would continue to be treated with dignity and respect.
This policy shift follows a recent meeting in which Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth informed military academy leaders that divisive diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs would no longer be supported within the U.S. military.
