Trump Calls For Transparency On Government Spending

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump released a directive focused on enhancing openness and curbing excessive expenditure within federal entities. Titled “Radical Transparency About Wasteful Spending,” this memorandum targeted the heads of various government bodies and agencies.

According to the document, significant government funds have been allocated to initiatives, agreements, and subsidies that fail to serve the American populace effectively. It highlighted that for an extended period, citizens’ taxes have supported ideological endeavors abroad and domestic entities that counteract national priorities.

The memo stressed that taxpayers deserve insight into how their contributions have been squandered on the personal interests of unelected officials instead of being used to further the nation's welfare.

In this directive, Trump explicitly instructed agency leaders to represent the interests of U.S. citizens. He urged them to disclose comprehensive details of every discontinued program, canceled contract, terminated grant, or any other halted federal funding obligation, as allowable by law and deemed appropriate to align with his administration’s goals.

The memorandum emphasized that such disclosures must comply with existing legal frameworks, regulations, and the stipulations of the respective contracts, grants, or awards.

Alongside this, Trump enacted an executive order named “Ensuring Accountability for All Agencies” to bolster oversight of federal bodies. This order pointed out that regulatory agencies wield considerable executive power with inadequate accountability to the President, and thus to the public. It also noted that these entities have been able to issue major regulations without presidential oversight.

The executive order argued that such practices diminish these agencies’ responsibility to citizens and obstruct a consistent application of federal laws. It underscored the necessity for government officials with significant executive influence to be answerable to the President elected by the people, ensuring true governmental accountability.
