Dan Bongino To Serve As The Next FBI Deputy Director

Kash Patel, the newly appointed FBI Director, has revealed that Dan Bongino, a former U.S. Secret Service agent, will take on the role of deputy director at the agency.

Bongino brings a wealth of experience to the position, having worked as both a Secret Service agent and a New York City police officer. Beyond his law enforcement background, he is also known for hosting a popular podcast, "The Dan Bongino Show."

In a post on X, Patel expressed his enthusiasm for the appointment, saying, "I’m thrilled to bring Dan Bongino on board as the FBI’s next Deputy Director. He’s a fighter and a dedicated public servant who has spent his life safeguarding this nation. This is fantastic news for law enforcement and the pursuit of justice in America!"

Patel went on to praise Bongino’s career, noting his service in the NYPD’s challenging 75th precinct and his more than ten years as a Secret Service agent. "Dan’s integrity, leadership, and passion for justice make him the perfect fit to guide the FBI during this pivotal moment. He’s the kind of leader law enforcement respects," Patel added.

He also emphasized the broader vision for the agency, stating, "Alongside Pam Bondi as Attorney General, we’re building a team committed to rebuilding trust with the public, upholding the law, and delivering justice. Dan is leaving behind a thriving career because he believes in this cause. Together, we’re ready to prioritize the mission. Welcome, Dan—I’m confident you’ll lead with honor."

President Donald Trump was quick to celebrate the news, describing Bongino as someone with "deep love and enthusiasm for our nation." In a Truth Social post on Sunday, Trump noted that Bongino’s success as a podcaster—one of the most popular in the U.S.—is something he’s willing to step away from to serve the country. Trump also highlighted Bongino’s personal life, mentioning his supportive wife, Paula, and their two daughters, adding, "Dan is going to do an amazing job!"

In his new role, Bongino will report directly to Patel, overseeing the daily operations of the FBI’s 55 field offices nationwide.

Before this announcement, Bongino had praised Patel’s confirmation as director during a Friday episode of his podcast, saying, "We got Kash in—now you’ll see what real transformation looks like."

Bongino addressed his appointment in an X post on Sunday, expressing gratitude: "Thank you, Mr. President, Attorney General Bondi, and Director Patel. I’ve devoted my career to public service, starting with the NYPD, then as a Secret Service agent under both Republican and Democratic leadership. I’ve seen up close the commitment and sacrifices of the men and women in these roles who serve with integrity."

He continued, "The FBI has hardworking people who honor their constitutional oath. They need leaders who will support them, protect their work, and let them do their jobs effectively."

Patel and Bongino are poised to drive significant changes within the FBI. Patel has previously suggested reassigning up to 1,000 agents from Washington, D.C., to field offices nationwide. He has also proposed a bold idea: shutting down the FBI’s D.C. headquarters and transforming it into what he calls a "museum of the deep state."
